A wetland mitigation project is taking place at Thorn Creek Headwaters Preserve from 2013 through 2018. View more information.

The 426-acre Thorn Creek Headwaters Preserve was acquired between 2007 and 2008.

The preserve is part of the Thorn Creek preservation system, which conserves approximately 1,600 acres of land.

Natural Resources

Thorn Creek Headwaters Preserve protects wetland habitat and the headwaters of Thorn Creek.

The preserve is home to a variety of plant species, including false boneset and meadow parsnip.

The site is managed with community restoration to protect and enhance its natural resources. Learn more about the Districtís land management activities.

Thorn Creek Headwaters Preserve is located south of Dralle Road and west of Steger-Monee Road in University Park/Monee Township.
